Bible Study Library

Free tools, translations, commentaries, courses, ancient writings and libraries for Bible study, plus modern books worth owning or borrowing. Every item links to its source. Mark what you've started and finished, and follow the 52-week plan at the end.

A simple study routine

  1. Watch the BibleProject overview of the book.
  2. Read the passage in the BSB or ESV; compare the NLT and NASB.
  3. Check cross-references on OpenBible.info.
  4. Look up 2–3 key words in STEPBible.
  5. Read one commentary (Constable, TGC or Enduring Word), then see what the church fathers said on CatenaBible.
  6. Write down what you learned and one thing to apply.

Suggested learning path

  1. BibleProject Classroom: Intro to the Hebrew Bible.
  2. BiblicalTraining.org Foundations: OT and NT surveys.
  3. TGC course: KINGDOM: The Story of Scripture.
  4. A systematic theology course (BiblicalTraining or RTS).
  5. Church history (TGC or Gerald Bray), then the creeds.
  6. Canon and manuscripts, then Josephus and the church fathers for background.

A note on traditions

Resources come from different traditions. Constable is dispensational; TGC, RTS, Ligonier and Monergism are Reformed; BiblicalTraining, Artos Academy, BibleProject and Enduring Word are broadly evangelical; Yale courses and Bible Odyssey are academic.

Books like Enoch, Jubilees and Meqabyan are Scripture in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church but not in Protestant or Catholic Bibles. They are listed here as ancient background reading.

Reading plan

52-week study plan

Read through the whole Bible in a year, about 20–25 chapters a week. Each week pairs the reading with the BibleProject overview video, Constable's introduction, and one resource to go deeper. Tick a week when you finish it.
